Wevla Privacy Policy
Effective date: Nov 1, 2026
This policy covers the Wevla app for macOS, iOS and iPadOS (“the app”) and the website wevla.com, including the product announcement list (“the website”). Wevla is made by Dan Nieuwland, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (“we”).
The short version
- The app does not collect any data. Your contacts stay on your device and in the accounts you connect.
- The website collects one thing: your email address, if you choose to subscribe to product announcements.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal information, and we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking.
The app
What the app accesses
To do its job, the app reads and, when you confirm a change, writes contact information to:
- Apple Contacts on your device, if you allow access.
- Accounts you connect yourself: Google, Microsoft, Monica and Zoho Contacts.
The app talks to these services directly from your device. Your contact data is never sent to us or to any server we run.
What the app stores
The app stores on your device only:
- The decisions you make, such as which contact records belong to the same person, notes you add, and your settings.
- A copy of recently fetched contact records, so the app works quickly. It can be deleted at any time.
- Sign-in tokens for the accounts you connect, kept in the device Keychain.
This data is not synced to iCloud or anywhere else. It leaves your device only if you export it to a file yourself.
What the app never does
- It never writes to one of your accounts without you confirming that specific change.
- It contains no analytics, advertising, telemetry or third-party crash reporting.
- It does not use your contact data for any purpose other than showing and reconciling your contacts.
Connected services
When you connect an account, your use of that service is governed by its own privacy policy: Google, Microsoft, Zoho, and the privacy policy of your Monica instance. You can disconnect an account in the app’s settings at any time and revoke the app’s access in that account’s security settings.
Wevla’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Deleting app data
Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device. Disconnecting an account removes its tokens and cached records.
The website and announcement list
What we collect
If you subscribe, we store your email address, the date you subscribed and confirmed, and your subscription status. We use it only to send you emails about Wevla. We do not collect your name, and the website sets no tracking cookies and uses no analytics.
How it works
- Subscriptions use double opt-in: you are added only after you click the link in the confirmation email.
- The subscriber list runs on Listmonk, self-hosted on our own server in Canada.
- Emails are delivered through Resend, which processes your address only to deliver them.
- The website is reached through Cloudflare, which processes connection data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
- The sign-up form uses a self-hosted proof-of-work check (ALTCHA) to stop spam. It sets no cookies and sends no data to third parties.
- Server logs may briefly record IP addresses for security and are not used to identify you.
Unsubscribing and deletion
Every email has an unsubscribe link. To have your address deleted entirely, email [email protected]. Backups of the list are kept for 14 days and then deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under Canada’s PIPEDA and the EU and UK GDPR, you can ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or object to how we use it. Our legal basis for the announcement list is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. Email [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority; in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Children
Wevla is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. If a change affects how we use subscriber email addresses, we will tell subscribers by email first.
